Crab Dream Update... and proof that I'm a bad listener

MDH just woke up and came into the office to give me a gentle kiss on the back of my neck. My hair is kind of short so when I'm leaning over typing/reading intently, my neck is exposed for kissing.

Anyhoo... I told him that I had blogged about my dream and he informed me that I had been screaming in my sleep and woke him up in the night. Apparently the crabs were more frightening than I had realized.

When I told him a little bit about my dream he said that it was probably a direct result of a conversation we had last night about our upcoming Hanalai vacation rental. You see, normally we live a life of vacation luxury. 4 and 5 star hotels that I try not to fuss about much because, well, I just don't. But for February next year we have shunned luxury and booked a beach cottage in Hanalei (that's on the magical island of Kauai in Hawaii). And yes for those of you who have read this and this - we are still planning to go back to Hawaii anyway.

It's really more of a rustic shack on a dirt road, but it's steps from the pacific and we'll have our own stretch of beach. MDH is sceptical of this plan, probably because it was my idea and he's usually the one plotting and scheming all of our travel.

Anyhoo... he thinks it's going to be too rustic and that we will be eaten alive by bugs. What's left of our bodies will no doubt melt in the February heat because the cottage has no air conditioning.

He has already mapped out a Tsunami escape plan on Google Earth, and informed me that we will need 2 kinds of insect repellent, in spray and lotion form, both containing deet.

So last night we had a long discussion about bug repellent which is probably what caused my crab dream.

He is skeptical of any accommodations that have molded plastic seating. Snob. Here is what the view will be like from our little cottage porch - I might be willing to have my coffee sitting on a bed of thumbtacks for this view.

The proof that I'm a bad listener, I nearly forgot...
He said that he was going to finish watching his DVD rental about the war of 1812. To which I replied "Oh, is that the one that's in color?"

lunchlady, that looks BEAUTIFUL. which means those trees will be ripped up in a landscaping project the week you're there, and a large crane will block your view of the water. sorry, but its true.

He's insane if he thinks this won't be fabulous.

Player - I will try to keep this information from MDH as he is already freaking out about how bad it will be.

Mr. Punchman - I heartily agree.

I once rented us a rustic farmhouse in Tuscany for a relaxing vacation. I became a nervous wreck due to the quiet after about two days and my husband had to pack me up and drive us to Florence where luckily he found us a room at a nice civilized and fancy hotel.

It looks amazing and I may start to use tis image as hope for a better place! And maybe welcome the crabs for company.

THAT looks awesome! Hopefully it is everything it seems to be.

Also, I thoroughly enjoyed your dream! At least it had some sense of continuity with the crab theme. My dreams get downright daffy and ridiculous sometimes.

OMG, it looks gorgeous. We were in Kauai two years ago...it was fabulous. But having a private beach, not to be shared with 100s of other hotel guests? Well, I can't even imagine it.

WendyB - the cottage has cable TV and a stereo and we'll have a car and we will be within walking distance of the little town and a giant resort. I have had to reassure MDH that we will not run out of things to do and get bored.

As for the quiet - the roaring sounds of the pounding surf will do me fine.

R-woman - the back porch picture is now the background on my desktop. That's totally what planning vacations do for me - give me something fabulous to look forward to.

Michelle - even if it's not I'm sure we'll be fine - how could we not enjoy ourselves at such a spot?

Heidi - all the beaches in Hawaii are open to the public, which in my opinion is as it should be - but you are right we probably won't have as much beach traffic down at our little shack.
Although I heard from the rental agent that it's a great spot in the winter for big wave surfers so I'm hoping to see a good show.

I commented in the post before about the dream but now this all makes sense (putting on my professor glasses and scratching my nose)

Oh I love hearing about holidays to a tropical island, that sounds sooo lovely. And your hubby really does score extra bonus points with me just by the fact he has mapped out a tsunami escape plan. That is the idea of my perfect man! hahah.

It all sounds beautiful = the beach and the cabin.

Sounds like it could be a good time, especially seeing that the temperatures in Hawaii will be about 80-90 warmer than Michigan at that time of year. Hopefully the photos are not lying and the place looks as good for real.

Huzzah for you two crazy kids. However, if I lived in Michigan, I would never leave because that would mean I had to realize there were other places in the world and then I would be sad.

I'm not a 4 or 5 star kind of girl, so to me, that looks like paradise.

Drooling...drooling.

Chris - no shit - I'm still wowing over it myself.

SKate - He is always the man with the plan. The first thing he does when we check into a hotel room is go over the fire exit strategy with me. He is the paranoid man with the plan. (I don't mind.)

Evil - we have dissected the situation from every angle from hurricanes and tsnamis to the local people being mean to us in the supermarket and in all cases the risk is worth it.

Pistols - if we didn't plan escapes like this every February we would go completely insane. This one is just especially fantastic.

Churlita - I never dreamed in a million years I would have gone to Hawaii once, and here I am planning my third trip. Crazy.

Frenchie - it's not quite Nature Boy's "off the grid" fantasy, but it's about as close as I'm willing to get.
