F-U

I'm not very good with whaddya call 'ems? Oh, yes (had to go running to MDH for the word) acronyms and abbreviations which is kind of a dangerous thing for someone working in IT.

See?

Right there, I - T

What the hell does that stand for anyway? Idiot Typing. Idle Tapeworm. Internet Tranny. Introverted Timebomb.

Just kidding! I know that it stands for Information Technology, but to be perfectly honest, sometimes I forget.

Anyhoo... My new job is riddled with so many acronyms and abbreviations I can hardly keep track of them all.

Regardless, somehow I'm doing really well and the person who has been training me says that I've caught on more quickly than anyone else in the department, and as a result they have given me even more responsibilities.

I think they either haven't noticed or don't care that I don't know what the hell anything is called. I'm trying so very hard to learn the lingo, and although the powers that be at my new place of work seem to be impressed with my amazing skills and abilities a typical conversation overheard at my cubicle might sound like this:

Me: I found a discrepancy between the O-F-Whoosie Whatsis thingy and the M-F ing B-L-T

My coworker: The Manufacturing Lead Time?

Me: Yeah, that.

My coworker: How'd you get BLT out of that?

Me: I'm hungry M-F'er.

I got hungry at the initials BLT.

I work at a technical school and it's easy to get carried away with the program names: CEET, CNS, SAP, CJ, GEI, ACICS, G.U.I., O.R....Blah, blah blah. I have to stop myself when I'm talking to people who don't know those initials.

Even in education we're loaded with them: IEP, IPDP, LPDC, AYP, CIP, SSC, SBE....and I could go on for pages! And of course, NO ONE has ANY clue what any of these mean unless they're in education, and even then it's a toss up.

I worked most of my life as a sys admin before I started tech writing.

You have my sympathies working in IT...

Hi, I found you via Blowing Things up with Gas and find you're a gas. I'll be back to partake of your twisted humor.

I was in the military and they used them all the time. Perhaps it was a little scary that I didn't know what most of them meant and I was supposed to know them!

Glad to hear you are mopping up at the new gig. The new person always has it rough in that they are ones who have to learn everything everybody else knows already. The simplest task like finding where the pencils are become very difficult in the new job.

I deal with lots of acronyms....YE, EOM, PR..and if that is not enough some of the acronyms are translated into numeric codes.

If I can speak some "French" for a moment - FUCK ACRONYMS AND THE HORSE THEY RODE IN ON. Ahem, that's all.

My job is full of them too. One day I'm going to write my boss an email full of them and I am going to MAKE THEM UP. See how he likes it.

I'd use a few acronyms here, but I'm not any good at them, either. I try to spend my life being as unlike 15-year-old girls as possible - not because they're immature, but because opposites attract.

It sounds like you're kicking ass - acronyms and all.
