A Good Time Was Had by One

Hello! Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes. I debated a bit about whether or not to let anyone know that it was my birthday, and when I say "a bit", what I really mean is about half a second, but I figured why the hell not? and ended up getting all of your lovely comments sent to me by email throughout the day while I was at work. It really brightened this aging lady's spirits.

I've spent my birthdays alone for the last few years. Not intentionally, but either I was on the road working or, like this year MDH was on the road working. I'm a big girl and it's OK to spend my birthday alone. Really - I don't mind. Besides our trip to Toronto was part of my birthday celebration and MDH and I will celebrate my birthday yet again with dinner at a swanky restaurant this weekend. My darling also left me some presents before he jetted off, including but not limited to:

  • The new book by David Sedaris called When You Are Engulfed In Flames, which may be the best title for any book ever.

  • Dirty coffee cups and errant socks strewn about the house for me to find throughout the week like an Easter egg hunt. So thoughtful.
Ever thoughtful Amy sent me a box of presents early last week that I patiently waited to open until it was my actual birthday:

  • A bag of candy orange slices (my secret favorite).

  • This framed photo of her and Ted from the Phillies game as a memento of our trip to Philadelphia a few weeks ago.
I have many little ways to make things feel special, even if it is just me and the cat, not the least of which was having a Thin Mint Blizzard from Dairy Queen for dinner, as inspired by my newest favorite blogger Fawless over at Lots Better Then Your Blog*. Thanks Fawless! If it wasn't for your informative blog posting I wouldn't have known such a delicacy existed - and I didn't have to give anyone a blow job to get it.

What really made my birthday great was realizing that last night began the new season of Project Runway and having the house to myself so that I could enjoy it with no interruptions. It was my birthday wish come true. God, I fucking love that show.

*I've been meaning to include her on my blogroll for months and I swear I didn't just now do it because she put me on hers.

Your postscript about being added to Lots Better Then Your Blog sent me running to check my blogroll. I was afraid I hadn't added her. I had. Whew.

Anyhoo...I'm glad you had a wonderful day. You should always tell your friends when it's your birthday - we want to know so we can hoot and holler. The calendar's been marked for next year.

I drive by a Dairy Queen every day and read the sign for Thin Mint Blizzards...and yet I have failed to try one. But now that it has been such a hot topic that may need to be my breakfast tomorrow.

Glad you had the perfect birthday...blizzard, couch and Projeect Runway.

the gift that keeps on giving...dirty coffee cups and errant socks, when he cares enough to give the very best

glad you enjoyed the birthday celebration by yourself

I don't have any Dairy Queens around me. I feel like I'm missing out on something.

Project Runway is back, woo hoo! I only saw a few minutes of the rerun last night, so I have some catching up to do. Happy Birthday again.

OH yeah, I miss a few weeks and I miss everyone's birthdays :( HAPPY BIRTHDAY LADY! :)

My best memory of a blizzard was in Florida a few years ago where they had a key lime one. YUM TIMES FIVE HUNDRED! And I don't even LIKE ice cream! Yes, you heard me.

I have to say a thin mint blizzard sounds pretty special though.

Oh grrrr, I missed it! Gonna run to the kitchen to whip up a cyber cake! I'm so sorry I missed it on THE day, though! Someone didn't tell me when I was asking for July holiday ideas. Hmm..

Happy Belated Birthday!

This is a great post, but your labels had me spitting on my monitor I was laughing so hard!

I just had one of those Blizzards, and I've got to say: I've had better actual blizzards, and not just because they trapped me in a building with hot women who couldn't escape.

HOORAY FOR THOSE CRAFTY GIRL SCOUTS! THIN! MINT! BLIZZARD! THIN! MINT! BLIZZARD! THIN! MINT! BLIZZ.. this chant is not taking off like I had hoped. Fine. All of you suck.

Your birthday is only like a week before mine! Mine's coming up on Wednesday. I'm glad you had a lovely day.

Also, I am seriously, seriously addicted to Project Runway. Little Boy Tanning Booth needs to go home soon, he's already done gettin' starting to get on my nerves. I'm so looking forward to this season. It makes me cry that this is moving to Lifetime next season.

happy belated b-day.

i watched that new Project Runway as well. a bunch of characters with not much talent. and, as always, they voted off the wrong person! i'll give it a few more episodes, but i'm really not sure about this season.

Gwen - I had no idea that I was even on Fawless's radar so I was shocked that she added me. Shocked and a little frightened.

Thanks for using the word "anyhoo" in your comment. You know it's my favorite.

Leah - I laughed my butt off when I unwrapped it and saw the little surprise in the background.

Thanks! I love and miss you too.

RenWoman - You know, it was all right, but what I prefer for about the same price is Ben & Jerry's Mint Chocolate Cookie.

Evil - I didn't mention the bits of whiskers and blobs of toothpaste around the tap in the bathroom sink. Those are really special.

Del-V - get a pint of Ben & Jerry's Mint Chocolate Cookie - same price - better taste bud value.

CDP - fortunately they replay ten gazillion times before the next episode airs.

Guv - I can't tell you how nice it is to see your voice again. You have been missed around here lovey.

Chris - UUUrrrp - thanks! (that's me pretending to burp)

Tara - you didn't miss it! I didn't tell anyone until the last minute. I like red velvet with cream cheese frosting - thanks.

Skydad - well who is going to clean up that mess? Glad to make you laugh.

Pistols - yes it was good, but it lacked a certain something - perhaps that trapped in the building thing - or not.

Fawless - OMG and I don't use OMG lightly - that tanned little clown looked like a chicken biscuit!

I was pleased to see not one but TWO (count 'em) designers from Columbus Ohio, my home town. I will be clinging to the TV even harder than normal because of this.

Minijonb - thanks for the birthday wishes and right back atcha. As for Project Runway - please refer to my comment to Fawless above.
